Situation critical !!!
Mark helped our 3.5-year-old Staffy X Kelpie who has showed anti social behaviour and aggression towards other animals, since she was a pup.
I have tried many trainers and methods, mostly of the positive rewards based training, which were not showing any signs of behaviour change.
Thanks to Mark we now house the Staffy with a Maltese Shitzu and been able to adapt the training to help both dogs with behaviour adjustments.
I have given Mark two videos of the Ulu, the first was approaching a house across the street 50m away where a dog lived, the second is one month after training with Mark.
I could not recommend Mark highly enough.
The joy of having a dog
One of the joys of owning a dog is getting out there and training your dog. With the all year round beautiful weather we have on the Gold Coast, there is rarely an excuse not to get out there and spend quality time with your dog. Training your dog to work for you, is the the best way of developing a strong bond between you and your dog. A dog that looks up to you, and is loyal to you in any given situation or location.
Quality time out training your dog is more important and more rewarding and fulfilling for your dog than taking him or her to an off leash dog enclosure to run free with strange dogs. Not only that, there are too many inherent risks in off leash dog enclosures these days, and not a risk I advise dog owners to take. I have had to assist dog owners that have dogs that have developed issues with other dogs, that initially developed by taking their dog to these off leash enclosures, than for any other reason.
Train your dog for real life situations and locations
Train your dog for real life situations and environments, in other words the real world. Not the confines of a structured group class. You train your dog on days and times that suit you. You can choose to either focus on lose leash walking with distraction, or book an entire obedience package. All training is carried out with your dog in public, around other dogs, people and all types of distractions.
Some dog owners are a little unsure about training their dog in public because of the way their dog behaves in public. Dogs are situational learners, and therefore will learn for the environment they are trained in. Therefore a dog trained in a stuctured group class will not necessarily transfer over to the real world. When we first commence your dogs training I am hands-on with your dog to demonstrate and guide you, and more importantly help guide your dog through the most difficult part of his/her training. I will not pass up on any dog, as the reason I offer this service to help dog owners achieve control of their dog in public. So never be embarrassed about how out of control your dog is, I am here to help you train your dog and guide you to the best of my ability.
If your dog has no real behavioural issues in the home, and all you need to focus on is having a well behaved dog out in public, then these packages are designed for you and your dog. If you are having issues in the home, please visit my home consultation page by clicking here.
We conduct your dogs obedience lessons at locations where there are distractions that you would normally find when taking your dog out in public, such as other dogs, people, bikes, skateboards, etc, etc. This type of training is far superior to a sterile group class, where your dog does not come across distractions he/she would find when being out in public.
Your initial lesson is for around 1 hour. This allows me time to meet you and your dog, get an understanding of your requirements, and observe your dogs temperament. During this session I also discuss with you your dogs basic instincts and drives so you have a better understanding of your dog, and how we utilise these during your dogs training. We then begin by conditioning your dog to focus on you whilst on leash. Moving very quickly on to lose leash walking. The following sessions run for approximately 305 mins, as we progress through all of your dogs basic obedience in public and with distractions.
You will learn how to train your dog in the following:
- Lose leash walking
- Remaining calm and responsive to you on leash around distractions
- Automatic sits
- Drops/Downs on command
- Stays up to 10+ metres away
- Recalls from the stay
- Recalls whilst your dog is free roaming
What you will require:
- A standard webbing leash or slip leash approximately 1.8 mtrs long
- A 10 mtr training leash (obedience package)
- A treat pouch and juicy treats if you are using food
- A slip collar, martingale collar or correction chain (I do not recommend the use of Halter type collars)
- You can purchase good quality training equipment from me.
Lessons are available:
- 7am to not enough light Monday to Thursday
- 7am to 3pm Friday
- 9am to 3pm Saturday
